The American Alpine Club recently announced the beginning of a new grant program- Catalyst: Adventure Grants for Change. While big outdoor companies have long been proud supporters of environmental justice, in the past couple of years more companies have become more vocal about including people of all races, genders, sizes, ethnicities, races, and backgrounds in their messaging. The Catalyst Grant is one more step towards making the outdoors a space that everyone can afford and access.
As noted on the American Alpine Club’s webpage: “This grant will provide BIPOC, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people with both seen and unseen disabilities the funds to help them overcome barriers, adapt to disabilities, and reach ambitious climbing goals.” Diversity in people, as well as style of climbing the application is welcome to boulderers and ski mountaineers alike.
So here’s the nitty-gritty. The largest amount that can be awarded is $1,000 and individuals, as well as teams of 2-4 people, are welcome to apply. The objective must be in the US and applicants do not have to be American Alpine Club members to apply- in fact, a one-year American Alpine Club Membership will be awarded to winners along with the grant funds.
The application closes on May 31st, so get working on your application now! Winners will be announced in June.
